You know, one of the many things that pissed me off today was browsing through Marvel's site and discovering the updated Open Submission Policy. It seems the days of mailing in your work is at in end. The guidelines were quite simple a few years ago. I would have submitted sooner, but I just didn't have the confidence. Now, it's just gone. I'm not sure when it happened, but this is a monkey-wrench in my plans. What happened? I guess too many scrubs submitted their crap and Marvel had enough...?

The good news is that an aspiring comic book artist can still submit his or her work at a convention, but the convenience of postal mail and email is no longer an option. I'm royally pissed. I kinda like conventions, but I rarely go to them. Hell, even if I do manage to get in, it's only for a day. I'm a poor person, for Pete's sake. Conventions don't fit in my limited budget.

I suppose one day at a convention is enough to get the job done. Unfortunately, doing it this way adds more pressure to an already stressed out person. I don't mind being proactive... it's just...

    ...fuck.

  • Aw man, that sucks. I know what it's like to try to make something happen on a very limited budget. It's beyond frustrating.

If it's any consolation, I dig your work :) Not that it will get you in print, my opinion that is, but I just felt like I should share it. I've always envied those with a talent for the visual arts.

Wishing you the best of luck! You're bound to find a way to see your work make it big :)

    Cheers,

    Taylor

  • That's a bummer.  Don't know what to say, other than just to keep your stick on the ice.  We're all in this together.  Sucks trying to get anything going for yourself.  Especially when you're drive is sucked out of you like that.  Hang in there, bud.

  • How is that Dead Weather CD?

  • @MightyMartian - Well, I gotta say, I love collaborations. You may already know this, but The Dead Weather is a mixture of The Kills and Raconteurs. It's not really a match made in heaven, but it works. I dig it, even though I enjoy their solo work better.

@JoeTheBartender - It's a major bummer. Thank God Marvel isn't the only company out there. I currently have my sights set on Dark Horse.

@skylar_rose - You're opinion and thoughts mean a lot to me. I'm happy. Hey, I always envy folk who can write. I think you have to work a lot harder than me. lol

  • Oh really? That sucks.

At least there is still away. I'd be scared to submit it in person, mainly because I'm shy. BUT YOU! Your work is AWESOME. So you should do it.

Do it! Do it! Do it! :D

  • @Who_is_Legatia - God, I'm still stoked that you're back on Xanga, it's not even funny.

When I do submit my work personally, I'll be sure to tell them Lulu sent me.

  • Hahaha I'm glad you missed me! You are the nicest :)

You betcha'. I sent you to get the job done! Lulu is serious business...in comics!
